Carl angrily clicked the trigger of the pickup stick, the clamps muted by the trash he gathered; punishment from the city for littering. He couldn’t wait to finish.

A passing truck, windows down in the cool fall evening, slowed. The driver smirked, tossing his garbage towards Carl, who impulsively hurled the beer bottle he was discarding towards the vehicle. A shocking crunch sounded as it connected. Eyes wide in horror, heart thudding in his chest, Carl gawked as the truck swerved into traffic. Grating, screeching sounds filled the air and Carl knew; community service wouldn’t be an option this time.
